Project Description: An electronic roll-and-move board game, where students roam through a virtual SMU and earn points through correctly answering questions (MCQ, True/False, open-ended questions) of increasing levels of difficulty. The game can be played as a single-player or multi-player mode. In the multi-player mode, students can play as opponents or collaborators.
Motivation:Instructor would like to develop a game which engages and enables students to:
- Consolidate objective skills and knowledge while having ‘serious’ fun i.e. playing serious games or games for serious purposes (Abt, 1970)
- Play on their own or compete with peers, as an in-class or out-of-class activity
- Reflect on their performance through feedback and competition with peers
Deliverables / Outcomes: The game can be played outside of class time, either as a form of revision for the topics learnt or preparation for future classes. Instructor also used the game in class for students to practice and revise materials.
