Project Description: An online tutorial learning object for students to self-study about the Resource-Event-Agent (REA) data model. Through the simulation of the transactions of a Yogurt Shop, students go through a step-by-step process of identifying and applying the REA data model. At the end of the session, students are able to:
- explain the steps to develop a REA data model
- apply the rules to combine REA data models
- explain the steps of the REA data model, and
- translate the REA data model into a Microsoft Access database.
Motivation: Instructors would like to develop an e-learning object which helps students to consolidate their understanding of the REA Data Model which is an important model in the Accounting Information Systems to define and analyse data requirements needed to support the business processes of an organisation.
Deliverables / Outcomes: This is an online tutorial learning object created for self-paced learning. Questions embedded within the animated case study enable students to self-check their understanding of the REA data model. At the end of each section, students will be required to apply what they have learned in a scenario. The learning object also incorporates a video on how to translate the REA model into a Microsoft Access Database. At the end of the learning object, students will be required to apply the various concepts they have learned to a new case study.
