Avoiding Plagiarism

Project Description: An e-learning object developed using Lectora Inspire®, which introduces two main referencing styles (APA with in-text citation and Chicago Humanities with footnote citation) and provides examples of some of their most common and basic features.

Motivation: Instructors observed that some students are not aware of the consequences of plagiarism and the ways to avoid plagiarism.

Deliverables / Outcomes : Instructors may use this e-learning object as a pre-class activity / resource to sensibilise students to what constitutes improper citation and paraphrasing and the potential consequences. While it can be used as a stand-alone learning tool, in combination with other SMU learning tools on the subject (e.g. the library’s resources), it can also be used as an interactive pedagogical tool that can be integrated as a graded assessment preparation in any regular SMU course requiring the submission of written assignments.
