SMU Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLO)-based Rubrics

SMU’s GLO-based rubrics were developed collaboratively across the University using an evidence-based approach and informed by practices from leading institutions. They use a common 6-level scale, with most students typically falling within the middle range.

Each rubric outlines key components for assessing each GLO. These components are flexible; you can select and modify those most relevant to their courses.

Rather than creating separate assessments, you are encouraged to integrate GLOs into your existing Course Learning Outcomes. For example, you might use the concept application rubric when grading essays or apply relevant rubrics such as problem finding and solution implementation in SMU-X courses.
