Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Seminar

About the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is often defined as systematic inquiry into student learning which advances the practice of teaching in higher education by making inquiry findings public1. From the perspective of a SoTL community, the foremost ambition is to improve teaching practice that directly affects student learning2. SoTL projects are grounded in specific disciplines, and the skills brought from specific discipline can be applied to SoTL. A key to working in SoTL is an intention to grow and develop knowledge about your own teaching that in turn has a significant impact on how education is delivered at SMU.

The SoTL Seminar/Webinar provides a platform to hear from renowned scholars and faculty members committed to the systematic and reflective use of research methods to develop and implement teaching practices that advance students’ learning experiences and outcomes.
